Her arm having been well twisted, Julie will spend the next year as president of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Rotary Club. She was sworn in at a club dinner on June 5, and her term officially begins July 1.
Julie previously served as president of the self-proclaimed "greatest Rotary club in the universe" in 2020-2021 - keeping it operating and continuing its mission of community service despite the pandemic by moving its meetings, fund-raisers and other activities to various online platforms.

Julie completes term as Fanwood-Scotch Plains Rotary President

Julie has completed her year-long term as president of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains Rotary Club - an unusual year, to be sure.
Taking office a few months after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, Julie faced the challenge of keeping the club operating and continuing its mission of community service. She succeeded by innovating -- conducting meetings on Zoom, moving fund-raisers to various online platforms and staying in constant communication with other club officers and members.
Club members responded to the crisis by sewing face masks, initially to donate to health-care workers and then for sale to the public, raising over $1,500 for area food banks. Throughout the year, FSP Rotary continued providing support for local, regional and international charities.
With the help of other dedicated Rotarians, Julie kept the club moving forward in spite of the disruption and limitations caused by the pandemic. As immediate past president, she will remain an active member of the club's board, and is taking on the role of assistant treasurer.

Family team walks to win against Alzheimer's

Bea at Walk to End Alzheimer's in honor of Great Grandma Lorraine. |
Ten members of our family team took part in the annual New York Walk to End Alzheimer's on Sunday. Nine walked the route through Manhattan's Riverside Park while the newest team member, Bea, rode in style.
Team captain Shanna, who has organized our family's participation since 2008, reports that family members and friends have contributed over $1,700 to our effort. "Absolutely amazing," Shanna writes. "Thanks everyone!"
For a brief time, donations toward our total are still being collected at our team page. The funds go to the Alzheimer's Association to support care and research programs as well as support services for loved ones of those affected by the disease.

Our family team at last year's walk |
The New York City Walk Against Alzheimer's is just a few weeks away, on Sunday, Oct. 18. Captain Shanna is once again organizing our family team.
"I have been doing this a walk ever since soon after my Grandma was diagnosed and continue to do it in her memory," Shanna writes. "Hopefully one day, Alzheimer's won't be a part of life, but until then I'd love to show support for this cause and those touched by it."

We walk to end Alzheimer's
Our family was well represented at this year's Walk to End Alzheimer's, at New York's Riverside Park on Sunday.
Team leader Shanna reports that our team raised some $1,200 for this year's walk. And contributions can still be made toward our team's tally by visiting its web page.
Over six years, our team has now raised more than $5,000 to support the Alzheimer's Association's programs of support for patients and families and for research into combating the disease.

We fielded eight walkers this year - and as always, we walked to win!

Take a walk in the park for Alzheimer's research
The annual Walk to End Alzheimer's is coming up on Oct. 20 in New York's Riverside Park, and once again Shanna is organizing a family team to take part.
"Please show your support as I walk in honor of my Grandma," Shanna writes. "Spread the word and please donate to this important cause. Thank you!"
This will be the sixth year that our family - which has been touched multiple times by Alzheimer's disease - has joined the walk.
In that time, we've raised over $4,000 for the association, which operates programs of support for patients and their families and helps fund research into the disease.
The walk itself is a pleasant autumn hike through the beautiful park. The registration booths open at 9 a.m., opening ceremonies start at 10 and the walk gets under way at 11 a.m.
Please visit our family team page to make a donation, and join us in the park if you can!

The start of the 2011 Walk |
This will be the fifth year our family team has contributed to this event in support of the fight against a disease that has touched us in numerous ways. Each year, our team has surpassed its fundraising goal. This year Shanna has set a goal of $1,000.
"I take great pride in the money we have raised over the years and the awareness that has spread," Shanna said. "I can not thank those who have supported my family and I enough. ... It's really awesome how involved everyone has been and I hope it continues this year."
Please visit our Team Page to find out more, and to contribute if you can. And if possible, join our family team for a pleasant walk in Riverside Park on Sunday, Oct. 21.
